Freddie Freeloader – Wynton Kelly solo transcription

Wynton Kelly’s iconic solo on the Bb blues “Freddie Freeloader” is a clinic in eloquent, swinging, and masterful jazz piano playing. We can glean so much about how to phrase, swing and play the blues from these perfectly crafted four choruses.

I always believe it’s best to learn solos by ear, directly from the recording.

But if you need some help, I’ve created what I feel is the most accurate transcription available. I’m happy to share it, but PLEASE promise that you’ll use the original recording from Miles Davis as your primary source of reference. You can’t really get the feel and swing from the transcription – it’s much easier to cop that from the original recording “OG style”!

Check out my Jazz Piano Method ongoing course for a 3 part series on this solo, along with 300+ other lessons, with a new one added every week.
